Long Beach Township is a conglomeration of a number of small towns along the barrier reef off the coast of New Jersey known as Long Beach Island. Encompassing Beach Haven Crest, Beach Haven Gardens, Beach Haven Inlet, Beach Haven Park, Beach Haven Terrace, Brant Beach, Brighton Beach, Haven Beach, High Bar Harbor, Holgate, Loveladies, North Beach, North Beach Haven, Peahala Park, South Beach Haven, Spray Beach, and the Dunes, the township administers the everyday business for all of these small beach enclaves.
Since this town is essentially one "long beach", one of the most abiding and visible presences is the Long Beach Township Beach Patrol. It was founded in 1936 to meet the growing demand for an ocean rescue force in the burgeoning area. The organization employs over 200 full and part time staff, guards 12 miles of ocean beaches and two bay beaches and is one of the largest beach patrols in the United States. A lot of the guards have fond memories going way back when.
As a full scale beach resort area, you can expect to find plenty of vacation lodging in this town. Most of the Motels are in the area between Beach Haven and Ship Bottom. And what restaurants you don't find in Long Beach, you will find in one of the close neighboring towns.
However, there are several motels at the south end in Holgate. There are some really adorable, small hotels and motels that give you that incredible beach feeling. Just look at the Jolly Roger Motel in Beach Haven inlet:
And as befitting a real beach town, there are loads and loads of fun, summer sports to take advantage of including water rides, minigolf, sailboat rentals, pontoon rides, bike rentals, charter boats, tennis, bird watching, golf, etc. Did we leave your sport out?
So choose your beautiful vacation town and settle down for a week or two of the best of the Jersey Shore. With 17 towns to choose from (ya just gotta love "Loveladies"), you sure can't go wrong.
